Karla Camila Cabello Estrabao, born on March 03, 1997, is a singer and writer that was born in Cojimar, East of Havana, Cuba.
She was a former member of the popular girl group Fifth Harmony from 2012 until her departure in December 2016. Prior to leaving the band, she collaborated with Shawn Mendes in I Know What You Did Last Summer and Machine Gun Kelly in Bad Things. Both her solo projects were popularly recognized by listeners. Fifth Harmony
Camila auditioned for the X-Factor back in 2012 but her audition tape was never shown on TV due to licensing issues of the song R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Initially, Camila auditioned to the producers and got a callback that she could audition for the judges should the show have enough time. She got four “yes” responses from the judges but was eliminated in the second round of the boot camp after her sing off with Jordan Shane. She was then called back to the stage with Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke, and Normani Kordei. She, along with the others, were mentored by Simon Cowell and made it through the finals, winning the 3rd place.
Her group slowly made their way in the music world after being signed by both Epic and Syco Records. During her time with the band, they released multi-platinum songs such as Worth It, Bo$$, and Work From Home. She had two albums – “Reflection” and “7/27” – with the group. While in the group, she had also worked with Shawn Mendes and they released a song together.
On December 18, 2017, a day after their Jingle Ball 2016 performance in Miami, Fifth Harmony announced Camila’s departure. In their letter, they said “After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representatives that Camila has decided to leave.” The announcement stirred the fandom after the “we said, she said” battle between her and the group.
Rise as Solo Artist
Camila was unstoppable after her departure from Fifth Harmony. She continued promoting Bad Things, her collaborative work with Machine Gun Kelly. She was also featured in Love Incredible, released on February 16, 2017 by DJ Cashmere Cat and Hey Ma by Pitbull and J Balvi, released on March 10, 2017, as a part of the official soundtrack of the movie “The Fate of the Furious.”
On September 2017, Camila is set to release her debut solo album “The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving.” She released her first single as a solo artist Crying In The Club on May 19, 2017. She then released the song I Have Questions soon after.
